EG Vienna 250 EX Review

Finding a ebike with every feature you desire can be difficult, and when you are looking at electric bicycles that are also foldable, it can be even more difficult to fit every feature and accessory that would be useful. However, the Vienna from the company EG (Evergreen) includes accessories like front and rear fenders, LED lights, as well as a storage bag in the front. For other models, they may charge an extortionate amount for all of these extra features, but the Vienna is at a budget-friendly price of $1,399. You also get 6 pedaling speeds, which is incredibly useful for maximizing pedaling efficiency, meaning that you will get to the place you want faster. Not only do you receive varying pedal speeds, but you also receive four levels of pedal assist with the Vienna. Pedal assist will help you when you’re struggling while cycling, and you need a little extra help to scale a hill or cycle against the wind. Even more helpful for difficult cycling situations is throttle mode, where you don’t need to expend any energy, which can be very helpful after a long ride and your tired legs don’t feel like cycling anymore.

Another great feature of the Vienna is that it has a full suspension fork which absorbs the shock from riding on bumpy and rough roads, leaving you less encumbered by the road, and more comfortable overall. Depending on which model of the Vienna you buy, the newest model has a 250 Watt motor, which is on the smaller end of the spectrum, but still works well. The Vienna also has smaller wheels (at 20 inches in diameter), so this produces a mechanical advantage that may allow the ebike to have a greater electric output than what is projected. The official top speed of the Vienna is 20 mph, which can be produced by using pedal assist or throttle mode, or even perhaps from just using the various pedaling speeds available. However, you may find it a bit difficult to scale large hills by pedaling alone, so using pedal assist at least could be very helpful.

Besides the motor, having a solid and high-quality battery will influence your ebike’s performance greatly. On the Vienna the battery has 24 volts of power and 10 amp hours. This may be smaller voltage compared to other ebikes, but again, is quite standard for a smaller ebike. The battery pack uses Lithium ion cells, which are known for being long-lasting and lightweight. However, you can’t exclusively rely on the quality of the battery while disregarding the care and upkeep of the battery. The Vienna has a one-year comprehensive warranty included, but there are certain things you can do to make sure that the battery lasts beyond the warranty. For starters, make sure that you keep the battery in optimal conditions, which means avoiding extreme heat and cold.

Also, keeping it away from humid conditions will be beneficial. Although the battery pack is completely removable (which makes it easier to charge), consider storing it in the ebike when not in use, as this will help to protect it even more. If you decide to refrain from riding the Vienna for a certain amount of time (perhaps two months or so), then remember to check the battery level every once in a while. This will help to preserve the cells inside the battery so they are not disturbed easily. Keeping the battery charged at around 50 % is the best, but between 20 and 80% will do as well. The downside to the battery on the Vienna is that the key needs to be left in the battery in order to run the ebike, which can make an annoying noise as you ride and it is also more susceptible to bending or getting broken.

With the budget-friendly price of the Vienna, as well as the inclusion of so many other features, this means there’s a lack of a technologically advanced system when it comes to the control panel. Instead of a LCD screen that allows you to view the different statistics associated with your ebike ride, you are limited to a few LED lights that show battery level and pedal assist. Another negative feature of this ebike is that it is quite heavy, at around 52 pounds. This may be because of all of the add-ons, which some of them you can remove if it makes it easier for you. Also, as stated before, the battery is removable, so if you’re carrying around the Vienna, it may be helpful to remove the battery first to make the load easier to carry.

Although the Vienna may not be as advanced as other foldable ebike models, it still has everything you need and more. With a top speed of 20 mph, you will be sure to reach any destination in no time, with extra features to keep you safe and protected. So if you are looking for a collapsible bike that fits your budget, the Vienna may be your match.
